How do I insert my own hard drive to Olive ONE?

The design of the Olive ONE allows you to insert your own hard disk drive.  The following key specifications are important when purchasing your hard drive:

  • 2.5-inch
  • Max 15mm height
  • SATA 3 or 6 interface
  • Maximum 2TB (for now)

We recommend to use AV or "Green" hard drives that have lower RPMs and power consumption.

Western Digital calls these drives "WD Green" (capacity up to 2TB):

Western Digital also offers a Blue Line that has been tested to perform well with the Olive ONE:

Seagate calls their drives "Seagate Video 2.5HDD" (capacity up to 500GB):

In theory all drives that meet the above listed four key specifications should work, but in rare instances there might be incompatibilities and we can only guarantee drives that we have qualified (WD10JPVX and WD20NPVX).

Please let us know if you have bought your own hard disk drive and if it works flawlessly. We will then add it to our list of supported drives at the bottom of this article.

If you plan to purchase your own hard disk drive please follow these instructions to insert and install it:

  • Please make sure your ONE is unplugged from power during the hard disk drive installation
  • Please be aware that all information on the hard disk drive will be erased during the installation process.

Once the hard disk drive is installed please connect your ONE to power and boot it up.  The LCD should show the following message:

Choose FORMAT HDD to prepare the hard disk drive for use with the Olive ONE.  All information on the hard disk drive will be erased.
